Please have your child wear their program t-shirt or uniform to every practice/game; turf shoes or cleats, and shin guards. Bring a labeled water bottle with your child’s name. Our kindergarten through fifth grade programs are organized into all-gender teams. Our sixth through eighth grade programs will be divided into boys and girls divisions, if there are sufficient numbers of players to support two divisions. If there are not enough sixth to eighth graders to support two divisions, the teams will become all-gender. Children are welcome to join the team they are most comfortable playing in. Remember that rec soccer is designed to be a fun and accessible program for all athletes. Our coaching curriculum will stress the importance of fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork for all players so everyone has an enjoyable experience on the pitch.
Expert coaches agree that recreation soccer should be kept a fun and accessible program. Combining higher levels of soccer players into a rec program creates an unbalanced, competitive focused playing environment that can be overwhelming for new and rec-level players. The goal of recreation soccer is to give all players the opportunity to learn while having fun. All travel and Hoboken Middle School team soccer players (girls and boys) are not eligible to join the recreation soccer program.
We will practice and play in light rain conditions. Cancellations may occur because of inclement weather including heavy rain or thunderstorms. Because of field availability, makeups will likely not occur. These cancellations will be announced via TeamSnap prior to the designated start time of the practice/game.
Yes! We need coaches, and other volunteers to help us this season. You will receive free training and an NJ State Coaching Certificate plus a cool volunteer t-shirt! Visit City of Hoboken > Home (recdesk.com) to register by August 10. Log on to your account, click on programs, and look for the Fall Soccer Volunteer option.
First, make sure you register as a volunteer on Hoboken.RecDesk.com. Choose “Fall Soccer Volunteers” under the Programs menu. All volunteers will undergo a background check. In addition, volunteers will be required to complete training programs hosted by New Jersey Youth Soccer and New York Red Bulls that will provide the latest coaching techniques for youth soccer player development. This will include a 3-hour self-paced online program that needs to be completed by August 15. There will also be a 3-hour on-field class, and a 90-minute on-field orientation program. All volunteers will be provided with information and training schedules after they register on City of Hoboken > Home (recdesk.com)
Kindergarten/First Grade: children will be placed on different teams each week.
Second to Eighth Grade: children will be placed on balanced teams according to the skill rating that you designate during registration.

There will be semi-final and final championship matches for our second to eighth grade teams. Semi-finals will be held on November 2. Finals will be held on November 9.
A volunteer coach can request their child be placed on their team. No other team or coaching designations may be requested.
